By day, she balances spreadsheets as a top-shelf accountant. By night, she balances a microphone in one hand and a DJ controller in the other. In Central Florida’s crowded entertainment scene, DJ Queen T, also known offstage as Tina, has carved out a lane that’s part DJ, part vocalist, part master of ceremonies, and entirely about joy.

Growing up with a mic in her hand

Tina’s story starts long before the club lights and wedding spotlights. On her official site, she describes herself as “entertaining from the moment I started talking,” the kid who volunteered for school plays, sang in orchestra and choir, cheered on the sidelines, and marched in band. That love of performing eventually carried her all the way to a Carnival cruise ship out of Sydney, Australia, where she entertained guests in 2017.

Those early years built a foundation: music wasn’t just a hobby, it was a language she spoke fluently. Still, it wasn’t an obvious full-time career path. Like many creatives, she chose a stable profession, accounting, while music lived in the margins: evenings, weekends, and whatever time she could carve out around a nine-to-five.

From “side gig” to full-scale entertainment brand

Over the last decade, DJ Queen T has transformed that side passion into a professional career, working as a DJ, singer, and emcee across Central Florida. Her official bio notes that she has been a professional entertainer for over ten years, performing at venues and events for audiences of all ages.

Vendor listings on wedding platforms describe her as a high-energy, Tampa-based DJ who blends Top 40, dance hits, pop, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, country, and more, curating custom sets so couples hear their story reflected in the music. She’s also listed as a Black-owned, woman-owned business, something she wears with pride in an industry where women, and especially women of color, are still underrepresented behind the decks.

Behind the polished mixes is a lot of “try”: long nights learning gear, perfecting transitions, and figuring out how to read every type of room, from kids’ parties and senior communities to trade shows, yacht clubs, golf courses, and big-ticket weddings.

When the music stopped

Before the pandemic, Tina and her husband performed together as a vocal duo, playing shows in local bars and on international cruise lines. Then COVID-19 hit. Like countless live entertainers, they watched their calendar erase itself overnight. Gigs on land and at sea disappeared, including work that had taken her from Central Florida all the way back to Australia.

For an artist whose identity is built around making people smile in person, the silence could have been crushing. Instead, it became a turning point. With live stages on pause, Tina doubled down on the business side of her craft: refining her brand as DJ Queen T, rebuilding her online presence, and nurturing relationships so that when the world opened back up, she’d be ready.

Rebuilding with “good vibes only”

Scroll through her Instagram and Facebook today, and you see the comeback in real time: reels from Whiskey Joe’s in Tampa, pre-show sets for local bands, beachside parties, and nightlife clips where dance floors are packed and phones are out, capturing the moment. Her captions are full of her signature phrases, “good times,” “good vibes only,” and gratitude toward the venues and guests who invite her back again and again.

Instead of chasing exclusivity, she leans into relatability. One reel introduces her simply as a “multifaceted entertainment expert who brings people together through her infectious beats,” highlighting how she’s just as comfortable running karaoke as she is leading a full dance floor.

In 2024, she released a series of sample mixes on SoundCloud, party and club mixes, old-school sets, sing-along medleys, and even a country mix, designed to give clients a taste of her range and her transition skills. It’s a smart move for a working DJ: anyone considering booking her can hear exactly how she blends genres and keeps energy flowing from track to track.

The triumph: turning talent into impact

What makes DJ Queen T’s story inspiring isn’t just that she’s busy; it’s how she uses that busyness. She doesn’t just show up, play a playlist, and leave. She designs experiences:

  • As a DJ, she reads the crowd and moves fluidly between Top 40 sing-alongs, oldies, club anthems, and line-dance favorites.

  • As a singer, she brings live vocals to familiar songs, giving events the feel of both a concert and a dance party.

  • As an MC, she guides the night, introducing couples, hyping up birthday guests, and keeping timelines on track so hosts can relax.

Offstage, she still keeps that accountant’s discipline, treating her art as a business: investing in professional sound, showing up prepared, and continuing to market herself online. For many creatives, that mix of structure and spontaneity is the difference between a dream and a sustainable career.

And then there’s the heart of her story: resilience. She has reinvented herself several times: student performer, cruise-ship entertainer, vocal duo partner, pandemic-era entrepreneur, and now a sought-after Tampa Bay DJ whose calendar includes weddings, corporate events, community celebrations, kids' birthday parties, and everything in between.

Ask her what drives it all, and the answer comes through not just in her bios, but in every clip and caption: she loves making people happy. Her mission, spelled out on her website, is to put smiles on faces and create events that are always, unapologetically, fun.

In other words, DJ Queen T’s story is one of try and triumph: of a woman who refused to let a day job, a global shutdown, or the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field mute her sound. Instead, she turned every setback into new fuel, proof that sometimes the most powerful mix isn’t what happens in your headphones, but what happens when persistence, purpose, and passion finally play in harmony.
