Klara and the Sun Societies Answer to Loneliness

In the future loneliness can be solved with a new artificial companion that you can purchase at a local emporium. As our society quickly changes and moves toward self-manufactured reasoning, we as a people will need to figure out many different new technologies that we will begin to require, as we evolve through this auto fabricated revolution. This quest is an example of how our human emotions want some sort of togetherness, while on the other hand the created android, which mimics us, shows it desires something in return.
Klara (Jenna Ortega) is an artificial friend (Model B1) that lives at a store that is designed to sell robots to people who are lonely and searching for friendship. She is ready to be acquired and finally get a chance to have a true purpose. She has a belief that the sun will help her find a family that will truly need her and give her what she demands, to finally be useful. While in the display window, Klara meets her new buddy, Josie (Mia Tharia), a lonely teenager seeking companionship, with reluctance from her mother Chrissie (Amy Adams), Josie convinces her, and their journey begins.

During this weird but strange adventure, Klara and Josie interact with many different characters that help move the story along. This includes the caring Store Manager (Natasha Lyonne), who oversees and prepares the robots, Josie’s best-friend and love-interest Rick (Aran Murphy), Melania (Rachel House), Chrissie's housekeeper, Sal (Sophia Bryant-Taukiri ), Josie's older sister, and Capaldi (Steve Buscemi), a wealthy benefactor. As they all travel through this strange utopian world, they both learn many interesting new things about each other.
Based on a book written by Kazuo Ishiguro (released in March 2021), director and writer Taika Waititi, had to build this dystopian future and make an attempt to try and stay true to its original content, but somehow does not display what the author intended. As things start off the narrative is moving well, but somewhere in the mix of things he loses the message and does not give off a clear ending. The performance from the cast was done well and gives us the emotional intent that was needed to understand what these individuals went through helping the script proceed.

Creating these types of storylines takes a well-designed plan that needs to reflect what the viewer will project. If the director was trying to recreate what the author was intending, I am not sure Taika met the need requirement. Probably best, if you want to see this film because you like these kinds of titles, or you read the book and desire to compare notes, then this is the experience for you.

Final Comment: I based my grade on the pleasant performance from the cast, and a poor presentation of the tale.
Stars 2.75 out of 5
