Based in St. Pete, Florida, but with roots in St. Louis, Missouri, Alec has spent the past decade refining his craft and transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary works of art. Whether capturing the energy of a live concert or the serene intensity of a personal portrait, Alec’s work speaks volumes about his passion for storytelling through photography.
Starting the Journey: From Carbondale to St. Pete
Alec’s career in photography started while he was finishing college in Carbondale, Illinois. What began as a simple gig recording a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band ignited a passion for visual media. “I kind of fell in love with recording and capturing the moment there on the spot,” he recalls. Although he never took formal photography courses, his self-driven curiosity led him to study books on composition, shutter and aperture balance, lighting, and more. Over time, he expanded his repertoire, diving into video editing, 35mm film, and even VHS.
From those early days, Alec has evolved into a sought-after photographer. He has worked with performers of all kinds, from fire spinners to concert artists. His work showcases a deep appreciation for the spontaneity of live events and the magic that comes with capturing the moment.
Career Highlights: SXSW and Touring with THEY.
One of the defining moments in Alec’s career came during his multiple visits to SXSW in Austin, Texas, a mothership for rising musicians, actors, and comics from around the country. In one unforgettable experience, Alec managed to snap a photo of Nardwuar, the Human Serviette, crowd-surfing at an event. The two even shared a brief interview and a selfie. “It was a moment of disbelief at what had happened,” Alec says. “I was thankful I asked the universe for certain opportunities, and the way it responds still amazes me.”
His work at SXSW also opened doors for him to tour with THEY., along with rising music act that toured with Bryson Tiller. For two months in LA, Alec was the band’s tour photographer and videographer, capturing behind-the-scenes studio sessions, sold-out shows, and festival appearances. This experience offered him a glimpse of what was achievable as a photographer in the media industry and left a lasting impact on his career moving forward.
A Connection to the Conscious Community
Adding to his concert photography, Alec is deeply involved in the conscious community, particularly through his work with the Lotus Gathering. Referred to the event by a friend, Alec was drawn to the gathering’s emphasis on art, music, and genuine connections. "It means being free in an otherwise Matrix of life,” he explains. “It is a step into paradise, where we can express ourselves musically, through art, dance, and so many other ways.”
His favorite moments at the gathering include learning Acro Yoga and witnessing intimate performances by DJ Dharma Drum. Alec’s passion for capturing these transformative experiences is evident in the vibrant and soulful images he produces at such events.
What’s Next for Shoot Now Photo?
Alec continues to push his creative boundaries, both personally and professionally. He’s freelancing, working with independent production companies, and collaborating with Cardinal Creative Studio in St. Pete to expand the local creative scene. His upcoming projects include shooting DayDream Farmers' Big Halloween Event at Synergy Glass Factory and possibly covering Hulaween.
Looking ahead, Alec’s goals include diving deeper into festival press photography and offering prints, shirts, and other creative merchandise to sustain his passion full-time. After a major setback, having his gear stolen last year Alec’s been rebuilding his kit, investing in higher-quality equipment to take his photography to new heights.
He remains steadfast in his mission through the ups and downs: “When we fall, get back up and start looking for a good deal on a replacement! Get back to creating, and fulfilling soul missions.”
