Fifteen minutes into the film if you aren’t laughing or grabbing the side of your seat due to the amazing stunts, then you are at the wrong movie. Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the fourth in the franchise that started 1995 and it’s a perfect time for another Martin Lawrence and Will Smith’s best buddy movie. Sure it’s outlandish, sometimes silly, and most of the time outrageously fun, but’s it’s what the two actors do best.
In the film Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) find themselves on the run when the case they are investigating turns on them. Now trying to get to the real perpetrators, the two hapless cops work their “Magic” on a trek to clear themselves.
It’s a fun film with a lot of super action thills mixed with the silly and often misguided tactics that draw a lot of laughter. It’s a movie that can help viewers unwind from a tough day as it presses all the right funny buttons for a couple of hours. If you are a diehard Bad Boys fan it’s a no brainer, just go and see the film as it’s meant for you. Most action film lovers will get their money’s worth, but those that can’t take the foolishness of the characters, may not.
It was nice seeing Martin Lawrence back doing what he does best in a role like Marcus. It’s been at least 10 or more years since the comedian had a big screen hit, and this one should make him smile. Zany as one could imagine is the only way I can put it, he makes the film work.
This Bad Boy’s installment has been rated R for strong violence, language throughout and some sexual references like the other three previous ones. Here they up the explosions and firepower a bit more with the help of some very good CGI and the film also provides some excellent stunt work for realism.
