Deadpool may not have gotten his wishes of becoming one of the best, but he definitely inserted himself into the Avengers universe as “God’s Perfect Idiot”. As you could expect, Ryan Reynolds kept up the role as the Deadpool we all enjoy seeing on screen. Throwing in plenty of hilarious jabs at the last 3 decades of MCU cinematics, for the only Marvel movie of 2024, we got a “Maximum Effort” film for the diehard fans of the masked assassin.
Each universe in the Marvel superhero realm has produced great movies with grand and triumphant heroes, and tear-jerking stories in war across the galaxy. But, all of that leads to the TVA first brought to us in the Loki TV series on Disney+. The Time Variance Authority “TVA” is a power in place to maintain a steady timeline flow.
Wade Wilson, the once-notorious mercenary, now finds himself drifting through a dull civilian life. His days of chaos and adventure seem far behind him. But when a threat arises, endangering his timeline and the only family he has, Wade has no choice but to step back into his Deadpool persona. This time, teaming up with Wolverine, who is just as reluctant to return to the suit.
When asking an assassin like Wayde to hop back in the saddle after some time out of the suit, let's just say the TVA should have remembered who they hired when they called Deadpool for the job. As teased in earlier movies, Marvel finally gave us the team-up anticipated for years convincing another X-Men veteran to put on his suit and bringing back Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine.
Many familiar faces hit the big screen in this new film, including many new characters seen as cameos that helped add substance to the plot. In other words, many unsettled feuds and unsaid jokes throughout both the Avengers and X-Men sides of the MCU were finally brought to the Marvel crowd. With attention to the fanbase falloff since Avengers Endgame, the third installment of the Deadpool saga can give the ones still dwindling some hope that Marvel still has quality movies in the midst.
A phenomenal performance by Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova (the unborn twin of Professor Charles Xavier) and the comical touch that was given by Rob Delaney playing Peter (seen from Deadpool 2 on the X-Force team). Along with many classic characters including “The Human Torch” from Fantastic 4 and “Sabertooth” from X-Men Origins, lost yet gladly not forgotten.
Deadpool & Wolverine is Rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references. Not a movie to bring kids along with, with multiple adult jokes and gore leading each fight scene. For the comedy and quality of the film and character choices 5 out of 5 stars.
