One of the most popular video games from 1993 published by Midway arcades, Mortal Kombat 2 continued with the same format as its previous predecessor. This video game consisted of a tournament format where your character had to fight a group of top champions and attempt to survive to advance to the next round. A death challenge that you must endure to eventually become the events champion and win the game.
In an attempt to control the Outworld, Emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) challenges King Jerrold (Desmond Chiam) of Edenia to Mortal Kombat. This results in Shao taking over the kingdom and having Queen Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen) and the King’s daughter, Young Kitana (Sophia Xu) become his consorts. From then on, the Outworld was in total control by Khan. Which gives him the full authority to create a Mortal Kombat competition.
Years later, on the eve of the tenth Mortal Kombat competition, the Earthrealm has been targeted to compete and must relinquish five champions to attend the event. Invited not by choice, Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), current film actor and former MMA Champion, to the tournament to become part of the earth team. Being reluctant, he is joined by four champions, Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), military officer and special forces, Jax Briggs (Mehcad Brooks), leader of a special forces unit, Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), this realm's greatest hero, and Cole Young (Lewis Tan). These heroes are led by Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), God of Thunder and responsible for the earth team, who must find a way to convince Johnny to support the team or they forfeit their chances.

On the netherworld team, who is led by Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), along with Kano (Josh Lawson), leader of the Black Dragon crime organization, Kung Lao (Max Huang), a Shaolin Monk and close friend of Liu Kang, who were both revived by Quan Chi (Damon Herriman), Baraka (CJ Bloomfield), a nomadic mutant, and Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada). Being watched by her bodyguard, Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Kitana secretly wants to support the good guys but must try and keep her intentions private. As the event begins the challenges get harder and Shao needs to guarantee that his efforts are victorious, so he summons Shang Tsung (Chin Han), a shapeshifting sorcerer who absorbs the souls of the defeated, to take what he needs to win the realms title.
This outstanding rendering by director Simon McQuoid is performed perfectly. He does an amazing job keeping true to the video game and includes remarkable special effects that bring this world to life. As the competition begins, he uses these tools to develop the different environments that these characters must endure. He also included the many required fighting scenes by putting together an excellent team to perform the marvelous martial art interpretations.
Come be a part of your favorite game and see the characters you have grown to love. This out of the world journey through the world of Mortal Combat is a sure fun experience for all.

Final Comment: I based my grade on the awesome special effects and amazing fighting scenes.
Stars 3.25 out of 5
